Picture

We all have precious memories on video tape, sitting on our shelves, gathering dust and deteriorating as every year passes.  Shrawley Media converts VHS tapes to digital files and/or transfers them onto DVDs and then posts everything back to you*.

How long do you take to copy my tapes?

Assuming the tapes are in good condition, we usually complete copying & return your tapes & digitised files within 7 working days. We will tell you when we receive your tapes and when we post them back. We use a tracked shipping service.

Can you copy more than 5 tapes for a customer?

Yes. Contact us for a quote.
What if my VHS tape is damaged?

Most VHS tapes can be fixed, depending on the severity of the damage. Any splits can usually be spliced back together easily, without a lot of video loss. However, whilst we do take all reasonable precautions to keep your precious tapes safe, we do not accept responsibility for loss or damage in transit or during the digitisation process.

Do you offer a bulk discount?
Yes. We include discounts for customers with more than 2 tapes to copy. It can cost as little as £7.99 per tape when 5 tapes are copied at once.
How do you take care of my tapes?
We understand that your tapes are precious to you and we do our best to keep them safe. When they arrive we inspect them for obvious damage. Then, we ticket them with your name and contact details and store them safely until we are ready to copy them. After they are copied, we burn the digitised media to your chosen medium (i.e. USB stick or DVD) and return the tapes and the digitised media to you by tracked postage.
Can you convert tapes for me if i am outside the uk?

At present, we only offer this service to people located within mainland UK and using the PAL VHS system.

What image quality can I expect?

Your digital files will be to the same definition as your video tape. The video cannot be easily enhanced from the original although we can explore AI enhancement for an additional fee. Most VHS tapes are 480p whereas most of us are used to high definition TV nowadays at 720p, HD1080p or even 4K! We transfer video in the original picture format. For VHS tapes this is usually the 4:3, old style TV format or 16:9 modern TV format (If we transferred old VHS video to the more usual and modern 16:9 format it would mean part of the image would be cropped. We therefore transfer to 4:3 if the original is 4:3).

What if my tapes are damaged during copying?
It's unlikely but, when handling old tapes, it is possible that tapes may snap or split. In such cases we will attempt to re-splice the tape and continue. If the tape seems in too poor a condition to copy, we will return it to you and refund you the copying costs. Unfortunately, whilst we always try to take great care of your treasured items.

We DO NOT accept liability for the loss of or damage to tapes sent to us for copying.
